Alumni speakers support International Women’s Day
To celebrate International Women’s Day, the Women and Law society invited alumnae speakers from various backgrounds and career paths to a networking and panel event.
The event was a fantastic opportunity for current students to hear more about different career paths and the journey they have taken in their professional careers. It provided the alumnae a chance for them to return to the place where their journeys within law began and offered students the opportunity to relate to them more on a personal level.
The financial support that the project received from the Alumni Annual Fund was used to cover the travel and accommodation costs for the professional female speakers, immensely helping with the costs of the event, as the society does not charge a membership fee to keep it accessible.
The University Chamber Orchestra and Symphony Wind Orchestra travel to Belgium
The University orchestras went on a joint tour, marking an important milestone in each of the orchestras’ history – it was Chamber Orchestra’s first tour since 2019 and Symphony and Symphonic Wind Orchestra’s first ever tour.
The tour included 30 students, two conductors and two alumni who travelled to Bruges, Belgium and performed in two concerts; one at the Joseph Ryelandt Hall and another at St Cross Community Centre.
The trip was not only a fantastic experience for the orchestras, but also allowed for a fantastic cultural experience, sharing the music passion of our University. The support from the Alumni Annual Fund helped to minimise the costs of the trip for many, allowing it to remain affordable for all.

Student led initiative receives support
The South West Acute Care Conference (SWACC) is a student-led initiative between Acute Care societies from the universities of Exeter, Plymouth, Bristol and Southampton.
An educational conference primarily dedicated for undergraduate students it aims to increase medical student awareness of Emergency Medicine, Critical Care, Prehospital Medicine and Anaesthetics in an engaging and interactive manner. This year’s Conference took place over two days where professionals from different specialities shared their invaluable experiences and knowledge through talks and workshops.
The support from the Alumni Annual Fund allowed the organisers to mitigate the costs of the event, supplying financial aid for venue costs, and ensuring more participants than ever could attend.
‟The Alumni Annual Fund was invaluable to the 2023 South West Acute Care Conference (SWACC). It opened so many doors and gave us the ability to provide the most for our delegates and speakers. The particpating universities could see how much Exeter has to offer as a community and how much our University facilitates our successes. Everyone involved with SWACC 2023 is very grateful for the Alumni Annual Fund, thank you.” SWACC participant.

Business and Finance society visit Budapest
With the help of the Alumni Annual Fund our Business and Finance Society was able to embark on a trip to Budapest, Hungary. The journey allowed the participants to learn more about Budapest as the economic and social hub of Hungary, as well as deepen their understanding of international business.
Due to the rising cost of living in the UK and the pandemic, for many students this was their first time abroad. The Alumni Annual Fund helped with the costs of the coach tour and transportation for the 48 students from a diverse range of year groups and backgrounds. With this support, the Business and Finance Society was able to help create lasting memories and friendships for the students.
“Being a first year the Budapest trip really helped me to grow my network of people. I went in knowing no one and came out of it having made great friendships. It’s a great way to break the ice and really get to know people you wouldn’t have met anywhere else.” Business and Society member.
